Configuring Netscape Communicator


To configure Netscape Communicator, perform the following steps:

Note: The following steps were created using Netscape Communicator 4.7. The steps may look different depending on the version of Netscape Communicator you are using. For information on configuring Netscape 6.x, go to Configuring Netscape 6.x.

Step one: From the Edit menu, click Preferences.

Step two: From the Category menu, click to expand Mail & Newsgroups. Click to select Mail Servers.

Step three: In the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box, enter your outgoing mail address (e.g., mail.your-domain.com).

Note: If you prefer, you may use your own ISP Outgoing mail (SMTP) address.

Step four: Click Add.

Step five: From the Mail Server Properties dialog box, in the Server Name text box, enter your domain name (e.g., mail.your-domain.com), and in the User Name text box, enter your user name (e.g., your POP ID). From the Server Type drop-down menu, click to select POP3 Server.

Step six: Click to select Remember password.

Step seven: Click the POP tab.

Step eight: Click to clear Leave messages on server. Click OK.

Note: By disabling the Leave messages on the server option, your e-mail client will automatically download your Inbox e-mail messages to your local computer. We recommend you leave this option disabled to prevent old e-mail messages from taking up your hosting account's limited disk space, thereby reducing the chance that your account will experience an overage.

Step nine: From the Category menu, click to select Identity.

Step ten: In the Your name text box, enter your name (e.g., Your Full Name), in the Email address text box, enter your e-mail address (e.g., POPID@your-domain.com), and in the Reply-to address (only needed if different from email address) enter a reply-to address (e.g., POPID@your-domain.com).

Step eleven: Click OK.
